We are always looking for dynamic and experienced extracurricular instructors to come to our space and teach the kids!

The Spirit Collective is a community-minded after-school program that focuses on developing the whole child, building confidence, empathy, and accountability through a range of inspiring, creative and movement based activities, lead by a dynamic team.  Our first program location will operate out of the Beach United Church @ 140 Wineva Ave, Toronto, ON, in the Toronto Beach.

 

At The Spirit Collective, we understand basic after-school programming needs, like a nutritious snack to energize young bodies, peer interaction, and adult supervision. The Spirit Collective offers a comprehensive, whole-person approach to include those basics and provide much more. With allotted movement, mindset work, and supervised homework sessions, our motivated staff & instructors will help each child to flow into the rest of their evening with ease.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Program Supervisor

The Program Supervisor oversees and facilitates the activities set forth in The Spirit Collective weekly calendar guide. This will include prep time to review the program activities and ensure that all necessary supplies are available and ready. The Supervisor will be responsible for record keeping (attendance), enforcing all health and safety guidelines, care of the children, and encouraging them to care for themselves and others in the program.


Reports to: Program Founder - Kelly Holmes
 

Responsible for: Supervising children aged 6-12 years of age during the hours between 3:15pm - 6:15pm
 

Job type: 15 -16 hours per week (3 hrs per day, Mon-Fri)
 

Number of hires for this role: 1-2

 
Skills, Experience, and Qualities
  • ECE (Early Childhood Educator) certificate, or equivalent required

  • 2 years of verifiable and relevant experience working with kids

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Compassion for children and experience working with them

  • Serve as a role model for children

  • Creativity in sharing stories and personal experiences

  • Demonstrates academic competence in subject areas (math, reading, writing), and the ability to supervise homework sessions

  • Have an interest in dance, yoga, and team sports a bonus

 

Roles, Responsibilities, and Tasks
  • Willling to take on a leadership role with the program

  • Help to guide and develop the Program Assistants’ child care skills

  • *Participate in events and activities with a positive attitude

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance each day

  • Ensure that safety issues presented during the orientation are followed by the rest of the program staff and children

  • Connect with each child, checking in with them all while providing a positive environment so each child can express themselves

 

Screening Procedure 

In accordance with the policy of the organization regarding the screening of all adults involved in programs with children and youth, this procedure includes completing our employee application form, an interview by two people, a reference check, and a criminal record check. 
 

Orientation and Training 
  • Mandatory orientation day(s) prior to opening in September

  • Fire, safety and emergency training*-Bimonthly staff meetings

 

Support, Supervision, and Evaluation 

As a support to all adults/youth engaged in children/youth, The Spirit Collective will provide daily support to the program by the CEO (Kelly Holmes), self-evaluation opportunities at training events, and regular support.

Program Assistant

The person in this role will assist the Supervisor in facilitating the activities set forth in The Spirit Collective weekly calendar guide, including set up and take down. They will help the Supervisor enforce all health and safety guidelines, including communication to the Supervisor if protocol is not being followed. They will be responsible for helping take care of the children and encouraging them to care for themselves and others in the program.
 

Reports to: Program Supervisor
 

Responsible for: safely supervising children aged 6-12 years of age during the hours between 3:15pm - 6:15pm.
 

Job type: 15 -16 hours per week (3 hrs per day, Mon-Fri)
 

Number of hires for this role: 2-3

  • High School diploma

  • 1 year of verifiable and relevant experience working with kids

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Compassion for children and experience working with them

  • Serves as a role model for children*-Creativity in sharing stories and personal experiencesDemonstrates academic excellence in critical subject areas (math, reading, writing), and the ability to supervise homework sessions

  • An interest in dance, yoga, and team sports a bonus
